Chart-Reuse case study: Facilitating TRUE Certification

A circular economy consulting firm wanted to monitor the environmental impacts of their clients and help them reduce waste through reuse

The following is one of a series of case studies showing how early adopters of Upstream’s Chart-Reuse software were able to help advance their case using customized impact data. Learn more and sign up for a demo here!

All About Waste, a zero waste and circular economy consulting firm—and world leaders in TRUE certification—was an early adopter of Upstream’s Chart-Reuse® software. Their clients turn to them when they are required to comply with waste-reduction policies and regulations and/or they have global corporate commitments that drive them to pursue green building certification. To help achieve these goals, All About Waste implements mechanisms such as ongoing data tracking, audits, education and awareness, and other initiatives.

TRUE certification can serve as a great roadmap to begin a zero waste journey in the built environment. It's applicable to existing buildings and their operations, new construction projects, and can be even used in a portfolio approach. One of the TRUE certification program requirements is that all projects achieve a diversion rate of at least 90%—which can be quite challenging for most of All About Waste’s clients. However, not everybody knows that reuse, reduce and repair practices can be tracked and added to the diversion calculations. All About Waste is using Chart-Reuse to monitor all the environmental impacts of their clients and making sure that the waste reduction they achieve by phasing out disposables is counted in their diversion rate—thus helping them achieve the target 90% diversion rate and TRUE certification.

All About Waste is now going to start piloting using Chart-Reuse to track the financials of reuse with some clients, to see what kind of data they can collect and what kind of savings they can begin to track as well.
