What is the Reusable Blitz toolkit?

This toolkit is designed to save you time and give you the resources you need to launch a Reusable Blitz.

  • For individuals. Feel free to use the resources below and do your own blitz.

  • For organizers. Ready to organize a blitz? Review this sample action plan which breaks down the steps to lead and organize a reusable blitz in your community.

Here’s how it works…

STEP 1: Go out and visit local businesses in your community.

“But which businesses should I visit” you may ask? You decide! You can focus on cafes, restaurants, grocery stores using bulk dispensers or refill/repair/repurpose businesses. You have many options!

STEP 2: If you encounter a business who accepts or serves with reusables...

Celebrate them on social! 

  1. Take a photo of the business and/or with the business owner/staff (make sure to ask for their permission first!)

  2. Post the image on your social media channels with the copy below (and don’t forget to fill in the blanks where the bold text appears):

    Check it out! We’re celebrating businesses in our community that accept or offer reusables and [INSERT BUSINESS NAME] in [CITY, STATE] is one of them! Make sure you stop by for [a bite to eat on reusable foodware OR your morning coffee with your reusable mug] and help us support businesses that are doing their part to fight plastic pollution. #WorldRefillDay #WeWelcomeResuables #ReusableBlitz

  3. Please tag the business’ social media accounts in the post and be sure to include the hashtags #WorldRefillDay, #WeWelcomeReusables and #ReusableBlitz. 

  4. If your account is public, please tag UPSTREAM and we will amplify your posts!

STEP 3 (OPTIONAL): You can offer printed collateral to the reusable-friendly business for them to (proudly) display that they welcome reusables.

  • Poster OR Table Tent for reuse-friendly businesses to place on countertops, tables, walls or windows

    • Download the front page (.png) with a QR code to the main Reusable Blitz website

    • Download the back page (.png)

    • Access the editable Canva design template to add a custom QR code (Canva sign-in required)

  • Sticker / Decal (.png) for reuse-friendly businesses to place on their windows

STEP 4: If you encounter a business who doesn’t accept or offer reusable/refillable options...

Feel free to share this educational handout that details how:

  • Reusables can save businesses money

  • Reusables are safe even during the pandemic

  • Reusables improve the dining experience and increase customer loyalty

Remember to not blame or shame the business! Focus on providing them with educational information about reusables, which will hopefully inspire them to make the switch.

The print version of the handout with crop marks is available for download here.

Helpful Hint: On the reverse side of the handout, businesses can provide local information that is relevant, such as a copy of the local health department requirements for reusables in business operations.
